Week ending 4-5-15

Last Monday was Nathan's birthday. It was an exciting day because it was also the day of my 17 week ultrasound. Nathan didn't know it, though, so we thought we'd surprise him with the news if the baby was a boy or girl.
First, on the way home from seminary I stopped and left sticky notes, cards, and Happy Birthday signs on his tutoring table at PCC for him to discover when he got to work at 9. He loved it! Then at 10 I left with Alexis for the doctor. This baby is going to be her buddy, so I thought it would be fun for her to come along to hear the news and then plan a way to tell the rest of the kids. For those of you who don't know, our plan is to have 10 kids. The first 5 are girl, girl, boy, girl, boy. Their names start with K, M, S, A, T. So far everyone has gotten their buddy when they turn 10. The second 5 have so far followed the same pattern: girl, girl, boy and their names start with K, M, and S. This buddy is expected to be a girl to match Alexis and will start with an A.
After the ultrasound we stopped and bought donuts and thought we'd arrange them in the male or female symbol to tell the kids. When we first got home, though, we picked up the rest of the kids and went to sing "Happy Birthday" to Nathan and bring him cookies at work.

When we got home Alexis arranged the donuts on a cookie sheet and brought each child to the table with his eyes closed.

Is this the male or female sign?

The kids were discussing it. They'd seen it on the Duggar show once but since we were sure the baby was a girl, and they didn't think that was the girl sign, so they were confused. Then they decided it was a boy. And it is!! Wow! We were all wrong!! We were sure this buddy would follow the others and be a girl to match Alexis. We had names picked out and everything. But it's a boy. It will be so fun to have 2 boys in a row since we never have before. We're all so surprised.

Nathan opening his presents that night. Here he's guessing each one as he always does. He guessed this one was a model airplane and rocket kit and it was! Made by none other than Alexis.
The little airplane he put together per Lexi's directions.
For the family present we wrapped up a baby boy outfit, blue paci, and the ultrasound picture. For once he didn't guess what his present was!

His traditional angle food cake and strawberries.

Tuesday I took the 4 little kids on a mommy date. We took lunch to the park and had a great time. I love having time with just the littles. It brings back so many happy memories with my first children.
Makenna pushing Samuel in the swing.

Not a great picture, but Samuel LOVES the Plasma car. He escapes outside all the time and is found riding this thing.
 Kaitlyn making dinner.

Lined up to go downstairs to see if the Easter Bunny came.
I didn't get any good pictures of Easter this year, but here are two of Samuel and his Easter bag.

Spencer and Samuel. I'm not sure who took these pictures. They should have found a better background. :) Or at least closed the pantry door. But Spencer still wanted these on the blog. He's such a good big buddy to Samuel.

Kylie did quite the Easter lunch spread this year before the first session of conference. She worked hard and it was soooo delicious. We ate the leftovers during the Final Four game that night.

Samuel is such a cutie. I'm so grateful for him. I love watching his little figure go on his merry way all day.

Adorable pictures, all. And such fancy food! I never bother with presentation of my food, but maybe I should. That looks so great! Good job, Kylie!
