Week ending 7-31-22 Alexis leaves for BYU, auditions for Shrek, school projects

This was a warm, rainy week. I'm glad we did school every day because it gives us something constructive to do while it's muggy and rainy anyway. Plus we're having a lot of fun.

Last Sunday: Thomas reading to his buddy Tilly.
Monday: Kaitlyn playing the piano. She's getting really good and I'm so proud of her for following in her older siblings footsteps and teaching herself to play the piano.
Tuesday: Making a balloon model of the solar system for astronomy.

Makenna writing to Spencer.
Talea's letters to Madalyn and Spencer.

Andy's letter to Spencer.
We had a going away party for Alexis and made a fun dinner and treats but this is the only picture I took. Guess I was too busy crying.
Wednesday: On the way to the airport to drop Alexis off, we dropped Kait off at a pool party.
Lovin her new suitcases and ready to start the next phase of her life: College life at BYU.
She's moving all her stuff out there then going to Europe with Kylie Aug 1-15 to visit my sister who lives there and see Europe for the first time. Then she'll fly back to Utah and start working and school.

She's such a beautiful girl inside and out. Always putting others first, never complaining, giving to everyone. She does all the dishes, a lot of the cooking, takes care of the little ones, listens to me talk about random stuff or my problems, and is there for all of us. We're going to miss her so much. I cried all the way home.

We stopped at Sam's Club and Whole Foods, stores we only go to when we're going to the aiport. We may not go back until December so we stocked up. Makenna nominated herself as packer and organized all the food so that we could fit it all.

They fell asleep on the way home.

Thursday: We made chicken and biscuits, green beans, potatoes, and picked blueberries to take on a little picnic for history. We pretended we were going to see the Battle of Bull Run like the people of Manassas did July 21, 1861. We sat on our hill overlooking the field and meadow and pretended to watch the battle. It was really fun and hopefully a memorable activity.

Thursday: Alexis left me the sweetest gift ever!! In this nightstand drawer she left me a tiny note to open every single day until Thanksgiving! I love it!
July 28 said to go cut a tree down. So I did! And it made me feel so much better. I've been feeling really sad that she's leaving home.
These 6 kids ready to audition for Shrek the Musical. They practiced a lot and did great.

Learning a dance at audition.
Talea did so well at her first audition! She was adorable.

Friday: We picked a bunch of blueberries on blueberry hill and made jam.

Talea licking up my spill.
Makenna and Samuel had the same wiggly top left tooth.
They pulled them out at the same time!
Twin smiles. Now Samuel has lost 8 teeth and Makenna 7. He's always one ahead even though she's 20 months older.

Huge blueberries! Each one is 1.5" long.
Our primary today. I held the phone up in the corner so I didn't realize I was cutting kids off. I might try again next week.

Week ending 7-24-22 First day of school, blueberry picking

Last Sunday: My 3 little girls, Kaitlyn, Makenna, and Talea.
Kaitlyn, just like her buddy Kylie did, picks out their clothes and does each of their hair. Today she did one bun in her own hair, two in Makenna's, and 3 in Talea's.
Monday: First day of school! I know it sounds early to start July 18 but we ended in April because we had the mission farewells and all the kids home and stuff going on in May. So we're ready to go back! Especially since it's hot and rainy, all our camps are over, and there's nothing else to do. We're going to take off all of October when the weather is gorgeous and we'll play and work outside all day.
Anyway, Samuel put our new pens and pencils in a big bag and wanted us to open it like a present.
We get the same Bic pencils every few years and each child always gets the same color. :)
Scott, our UPS driver delivering Lexi's new suitcases she bought with graduation money.

I walked by and saw the 3 little kids doing a drawing video and asked "What is that?" and laughing they said it's a cactus in a pot singing. Haha. Apparently it was a Cinco De Mayo drawing.
A cow had her baby in front of our house and the calf died. It was so sad.
It still had the sac on his face.
Soon the buzzards came but the poor mama cow kept shooing them away.
Never had that many buzzards circling our house before.
Tuesday: Happily doing school. We really love it. It feels so productive to be up and learning first thing in the morning.
The 3 matching girls again.
This week's garden photos.

I love the blackberries and am propagating a lot more. We didn't get any plums, cherries or apples because of the deer and squirrels and birds so I'm thrilled we have plenty of blackberries. I do go gather them once or twice a day.
My first little pumpkin is ready! Makenna's that she wrote her name in rotted. :(
Hopefully we'll get lots more and the squirrels don't eat them. They're hungry this year b/c we don't have any nuts. Last year we had millions of pecans and walnuts but this year there are none.
Wednesday: Andy and Sam reading at the bookmobile.
Today's fancy hairdo. :) Kaitlyn had gotten a hair book for Christmas and I love that she uses it almost every day and loves to do her sisters' hair.

Sausage meatballs and squash. I took this to thank Kylie for this pan she got me for my birthday and had all the kids go in on. It's been great to have a big frying pan.
Lexi's plate.
Friday: Today's tomato patch.
Just a month ago on June 10--what the tomato patch looked like. Crazy how fast food can grow sometimes!
I should have thinned it more but at the time animals were eating the tops of the tomato plants and/or digging them up so I left more than usual of my seedlings to see if any would survive. Then suddenly they were so big.
Andy's zucchini.

Hugging and jumping and chanting, "We're the triplets! We're the triplets!"

Tilly took this one of Andy with his big zucchini.
On Blueberry Hill looking down toward our house.
I tucked Tilly in bed and left 3 kids cleaning up from our movie party and took these 3 to pick on Blueberry Hill.

Saturday: Picking more off the bushes by the house so we can make jam.

Yum! Eating homemade jam on bread after their Saturday night bath.
Today: My little pioneer girls dressed up for Pioneer Day.
