March Happenins

For FHE treats on March 9 Kaitlyn made this gender predictor cake. I'm supposed to cut into it and if I cut into the pink side it's a girl, and if I cut into blue, it's a boy. She did a beautiful job with the cake. The only problem was somehow the top layer didn't get set on the bottom layer quite right. It should have been turned the other way so that the pinks and blues lined up. So instead, I cut a piece that was half pink, half blue. Does that mean it's twins, one of both? Or that we won't be able to tell on the ultrasound? Or just a flop of a cake?
The ultrasound is tomorrow, March 30. What do you think it'll be?

With morning sickness, no gas budget, and lots of cold, wintry days, we didn't go anywhere all of January and February. I think we went through half a tank of gas the entire time, only going to church on Sundays. The first warm day of March, March 11, we were out to the park! We hung out for several hours, playing and doing school.

One day in the middle of school Kaitlyn came in and told Thomas she was ready to play wedding. I asked, "Are you marrying Thomas?" and she blurted out, "No!"and laughed as if that was absurd. "He's marrying me!"

They had the cutest little wedding. The veil is actually a skirt and her train is a blanket.

This week we had a wonderful field trip to a state park. In the visitor's center there were these cubbies with sliding doors and different animals behind them. Samuel loved this skunk and really  wanted us to cut the cord and give it to him. We would stick it back in it's cubby and show him other animals, but he always knew which door it was behind and would go back to it. He was really cute.
The kids fishing from this boat.
Kylie and Makenna on our hike.
We had the entire place to ourselves the whole day. We never saw one other hiker or person in the visitor's center or at the picnic grounds. It was fun to be ourselves and play and have fun, not have to talk quietly and be on best behavior. Here they're marching across the swamp and singing.
Kaitlyn collected some Spanish moss and tiny white rocks to look like a bird's nest and eggs.
I think Alexis wanted her picture with a little pinecone.
Kait and Kenna were great hikers and adorable in their matching clothes.

The 8 kids in my class. They're all perfect students.
We love to wear our field trip uniform of navy shirts and jeans.
Driving through a tiny town of about 50 people, we saw this beautiful park and couldn't resist stopping and playing.
Kaitlyn attempts one of those rolly things like on Seven Brides.
The most fun apparatus was this bouncy teeter-totter. Everyone had to do it with everyone else so there was quite a bit of time spent on it.
 Lexi and Madalyn
 Kait and Tom
The pictures don't do it justice, but it was a beautiful day and the park had gorgeous flowering trees and shrubs all over with lots of cute little paths around the different jungle gyms.

Makenna was terrified when Kaitlyn started jumping before she was ready.

I took a turn too with Spencer.
I'm so glad we went. It was one of those "Love at Home" days where life felt a "bliss complete." It couldn't have gone better. I felt so blessed.

The other night Samuel was soooo cute. He put on this hat and ran around the house just being a ham. I tried going around with the camera to take pictures but I didn't know the flash was off and most turned out blurry.

The next day I tried again with the flash. He's such a fun, happy little boy.
He LOVES shoes. Here he wears Thomas' shoes.

Classic Samuel stuff: worm in mouth, bag of cereal, and wearing someone else's shoes.

Week ending 3-1-15

SNOW!!!!
The only exciting thing that happened this week was getting snow. It snowed all day Tuesday and a little on Wednesday night, alternating rain, but it was enough to cancel seminary Tuesday through Friday. Lots of kids grabbed the camera to take pictures, so we have a lot. I am not currently printing out pictures for my scrapbook, so I'm going to post a lot on here to make this my scrapbook, at least for this year while we don't have a job. Feel free to scroll down if they're too boring. If we ever move from this neighborhood I want to remember it dressed in white, so these are mostly for me.
Our porch at the beginning of the snowstorm.
Makenna looking out the dining room window.
I had a bad cold so this is my view from the couch. I LOVED snuggling with a blanket and watching it snow all day. It's so rare to get real snow like this during the day.

After being begged, I finally ventured outside where I was asked to take pictures of Kaitlyn's, Makenna's, and Alexis's snow angels.
Up against the foundation the snowdrift was 5 1/2" according to Alexis.
Spencer crocheted himself a cozy face mask. Kaitlyn is making a snow angel in the background.
 Tom and Kait.
Lexi walking around taking measurements with her ruler.

Kaitlyn with a bucket of snow for a snow treat they made with maple syrup.
Samuel loved the snow but didn't think he needed mittens, so he took them right off as soon we went outside.

Whoever took these pictures apparently changed the camera settings because I didn't realize it until I was taking pictures of Sam in the reading spot a few days later.
The frozen ditch in front of our house. I frequently mention the ditches in my newsletters so this is what they look like. There is a ditch between the road and everyone's house all over here in North Carolina.

Samuel was so cute reading with Madalyn in the reading spot.
