Week ending 11-6-22 Halloween and first chickens!

Last Sunday: It's the day before Halloween and Thomas already has a Christmas hat on his cello.
Halloween Sunday clothes.

Kaitlyn wanted to see if she could hold me.
Monday: Aunt Sara stopped through on her way to Utah from Florida and played games with the kids.
Meanwhile, I was making our traditional dinner in a pumpkin.
Going trick-or-treating. This is at Vicki's house who always takes pictures of the trick-or-treaters.
The 3 oldest went to the hotel with Sara so I let the 3 youngest watch "The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown."

I wish my camera were better but the mountains are so pretty and full of different colors. You come around a corner and are stunned at the beauty. You'll have to come visit to see for yourself!

Talea unloading groceries.
My favorite view on the way to Ararat to the bookmobile.

We got 5 chickens from a friend and brought them home in the back of the minivan. We've wanted them for a long time but wanted the perfect coop and set up. Finally I just took the plunge and went and got them and decided we'd figure it out after and we did!
Kaitly and Talea raking straw for the chicken's bedding. This little chicken hung out with them the entire time. I was so worried they'd run away and free range training would be hard but it's been pretty easy. They're good little chickens.

They love the inpatients flower bed.
Kait and Kenna did a great job spreading broom straw all over the barn floor and making little nesting and roosting places for them.
The kids holding their chickens in front of the chicken barn.
Andy's escapes.

They are delighted to finally have their own chickens. We are finally becoming a farm.
Kaitlyn and Bead.
Anderson and Pumpkin.
Makenna and Blackbeak.
Samuel and Swan.
Talea and Pearl.
Friday: Talea wanting a picture of her and Pearl without anyone helping her hold her. She's getting braver. :)
Setting up for the teacher appreciation dinner.
I made 2 dinner in a pumpkins and pumpkin rolls, something that was at a teacher appreciation dinner in 2003 that had an impact on me. It was fun sharing that tradition with teachers here. They loved it.

Friday: Andy the cattle driver. The cows keep coming down to the fence and our chickens are there so Andy takes a big stick and tries to keep them away. Saturday the Smiths moved the cows to their own property so we don't have to worry about them anymore.
We spent the day outside watching the chickens and teaching them how to free range.
They like the history lesson.

Makenna enjoying the 75 degree weather and doing her school in a hammock.

Having a baby doll picnic and the chickens join in.
Saturday: A friend brought us a rooster so Kaitlyn brings it out to introduce him to the chickens.
So far, so good. The hens seem to like him.
He's really pretty.
It rained on and off all day and the sky was really pretty.
We raked leaves while tending the chickens.
The Japenese Cherry losing its leaves.
So fun to have chickens running around our yard. Next we want a milk cow.
Last picture of Kylie's view. This storm knocked all the leaves and colors from the trees.
