Week ending 8-14-22 Broken water heater, Thomas's birthday, garden produce

Monday: Our water heater has been leaking for months but it finally burst and flooded the basement. Sam and Andy were great to take a turn scooping it up. It was ankle deep at first but they (and Thomas) got it cleaned up in no time. I spent the rest of the week calling plumbers and figuring out which replacement to buy. Good thing these kids don't mind cold showers and hand washing dishes and eating simply.
Kaitlyn won the backpack drawing at the library!
Tuesday: Andy made this birthday list for everyone in the family and a stuffed animal named Nolin the Niffler.
Kaitlyn sewing costumes for a play her dolls are doing.

Makenna's burn from flipping pancakes while I was busy with the water heater bursting. It broke right during dinner.
Wednesday: Madalyn telling Spencer and the kids at home her next assignment!! Nauvoo sisters are only there for the summer, from May 1-Nov 1. So she'll spend the winter in Salt Lake City South! That was our mission when we lived in Sandy. Then next May 1 she'll go back to Nauvoo until the end of November when she comes home.
Thomas turns 15.

He got a pull up bar and bible.
We had a primary and youth activity at a pool and the kids wanted me to take pictures of them on the diving board.
Samuel doing a flip.
The perfectly mowed green grass with white fence behind the pool was gorgeous but now it's dark so it's hard to see.
Thursday: Okra flowers. We've never grown okra before so it's fun to see it.

Jumble of tomatoes.
First time growing potatoes too.
Sam and Andy helping me pick herbs and fruits and veggies.

Makenna picked her watermelon she grew and was so excited about it. We had squirrels digging the plant up every day when we first planted it (and all 3 watermelon plants) so she was especially grateful to actually get a fruit off it.

Friday: The 3 little kids made paper snack packs and put snacks in them and have been reusing them and playing a fun game.

Saturday: First campfire in months. It's been too rainy and wet this summer and is normally too hot and humid anyway, but we got some cool dry air so it was fun after a long day of yard work to have foil dinners and marshmallows. We ate our own potatoes, carrots, peppers, and seasonings and added some grass-fed beef. One day we'll have our own beef too!

Week ending 8-7-22

Kylie got a free book at the library where she works so she picked this one out written by a lady named Tilly and mailed it our Tilly. It's a beautiful book and Talea loves it.
Kaitlyn got all settled in Kylie, Madalyn and Alexis' old room.
Tuesday: Kaitlyn trying out a new hairdo on Makenna.

Wednesday: Talea's hair is so long when it's combed straight!
Talea wanted some pictures of her riding a big 16" bike at the park.

Going up the steep hill.

Hanging out under the pavilion at the park before going to the bookmobile.
It was the end of the summer reading program and all the kids got goodie bags.
Samuel with his stash of good stuff. His favorites are the frisbee, cup, and $30 visa card.
Makenna coming in the house and telling Thomas she won an ipad. He's never been to the bookmobile before and prefers to stay home.
Exciting that Makenna got an ipad but we've never had one before and don't know what to do with it. :)
The 5 little kids and all their stuff.
Doing a show with their new water shooters, frisbees, and bubbles.
I couldn't find these two in the library and finally found them in the corner, Thomas helping Talea with her new activity book.
Friday: After learning about the sun we went outside and focused the sun's energy to melt butter and chocolate.

Samuel reading to Talea.
Thomas playing with tiny dolls with Tilly.
After playing Catch Phrase, Andy made his own. He's always making board games, stuff out of cardboard, writing piano books, and making worksheets for someone to fill out. He loves to create.
Saturday: Anderson about to get a buzz cut. I've always wanted to see how he'd look but Alexis wouldn't let me. Now's the perfect time since she's not here, it's hot/he sweats a lot with all that hair, and we don't have anything going on like a play for a few months.

Now they look even more alike. People already think they're twins and confuse them.
