Sunday May 20: It was the Jordan River Temple dedication. Nathan went by himself at the 9am session and then I took the kids to the 12pm session while he babysat those under 8. It was a really nice Sunday minus 3 kiddos in Wyoming. Felt empty and quiet. :) Here Alexis and Talea play by slapping the table.
Andy joining them.
Eating popcorn while watching Random Acts.
Tuesday: Alexis and Kaitlyn having a tea party. Anderson joined in and took Makenna's place since she's in Wyoming.
It's not the first time our girls have dressed a boy up like a girl but it will probably be the last since he's getting too big for that and there are no more little boys.
Someone's fancy cupcake???
Spencer and Anderson shooting hoops together.
Talea and I cuddling.
Wednesday: ward pinewood derby and chili cookoff where anyone could make and race a car.
Nathan helping Kaitlyn put some graphite on her car she made in activity days.
Talea being friendly with the boys.
The one sitting down is Wallace and the one standing is Boston.
Our 3 contestants. They each made a car (or as in the case of Andy, used one of Thomas' old ones)
Kait and her car.
This race Alexis came in 2nd but all the others she came in 1st.
Kaitlyn wins this heat.
Andy's car is racing!
Cheering for the top 4 places.
Alexis came in 4th place behind the 3 Ashby boys who win at every scout derby. So really, Alexis is a winner to us.
Right after the derby we made it to the intermission of the older three's concert.
Hanging out chatting.
Kylie got the "Beautiful tone, beautiful heart" award. AKA someone who not plays the violin well but is a good person too.
I know these pictures are bad but they're here to remind me of the wonderful feeling I had when I heard Kylie won. Her classmates nominated her and said some wonderful things about her. She is homeschooled and quiet and shy so I had no idea that she'd been more outgoing and helpful in her large orchestra. Enough that she would be nominated as the nicest kid in the class. She has many talents but I've always thought her best one is her excellent character. She is truly a Christlike person, always kind, uplifting, loving, and willing to do anything for anyone. I'm so proud of her.
Meanwhile, this week Thomas, Makenna and Samuel went to Wyoming with my mom and Lori to help my brother Ben build his log house. Here are the pictures they took there.
Going up on the telehandler. Ben was so good to give them rides on all the equipment and let them run all over his property.
At the top of the scissor lift. His log house is huge!
Friday: We left for Worland, Wyoming. My mom had already taken 3 kids up so I only had 7. It was such an easy, quiet trip. For Wyoming, it was beautiful too. Everything was so green. I've never been there before so I really enjoyed the scenery. In this picture there was an area of desolation and then suddenly a row of trees by a small river that my kids were laughing at and took a picture of.
This was a cool rock formation that looked like Mt. Rushmore. Someone could carve all of the presidents in it. That would be neat.
There were a lot of funny signs like this.
Talea happy in her seat.
We stopped at Farson, very popular for it's humongous ice cream cones (but we didn't get any), and laughed at their tiny bathroom.
My sweet oldest and youngest.
We saw lots of antelope but had a hard time getting a picture of them.
The landscape was so pretty.
Saturday: Eating breakfast at Ben and Janet's rental house.
Tad made waffles.
After breakfast we went out to Ben's property. I parked the car and hopped out and this was my first view of his massive house he's building all by himself. This is just the garage. The front of the house is on the other side.
This is the garage with the children's bedrooms above.
Madalyn just sanded this huge log post.
Madalyn and Tad with Samuel and Anderson playing in the background.
Kids getting a ride on the scissor lift.
Ben was so fun insisting all the kids get to ride on or drive the equipment. We were here to help but I think we played more than helped.
Ben giving Anderson and Samuel a ride on the telehandler while he lifted some supplies up to the roofers.
A bunch of kids getting a ride.
Kylie gets to drive.
Now Madalyn.
A look at the inside. This is the view from the garage.
This is me sanding. It was the perfect job because I could stop every few minutes to tend to the kids. I wish could have gotten a lot more done and worked for hours without interruption but that's hard with little kids, especially a nursing, scooting baby.
This is the side of the house with the garage in the back.
Lifting the OSB up to the roof to put on top of the insulation.
Playing on the quad.
Lunch break!
Thomas won the award for most injuries. He stepped on a screw, hit his head on the scaffolding thing, and slid on the gravel.
Andy taking a nap on the concrete garage floor.
Hanging out in the rental house play room before bedtime.
Sunday: Eating lunch outside.
Watching a rainstorm.
They have 3 acres at this rental property and it was so pretty.
Monday: Working on the roof.
A beautiful view from their property.
Tuesday we said our goodbyes and drove home (accidentally leaving our camera at their property)
Saturday morning Nathan stayed home from work and offered to watch the kids so that I could go for a hike as a belated birthday present from him. The weather was nice and cool and although it was far from my favorite hike, I still had a great time.
