Monday: Spencer's 16th birthday. We went at 8am to get his license. Hooray!
The whole crew wanted to come.
When we got home he dropped us off and took his new ferrari out for a spin. Haha.
Actually he took the big van to school. This will probably be his wheels because I love my minivan and the ease of putting Talea in the seat behind me as she goes everywhere with me. And we probably go farther than he does just going to school and back each day.
First time driving away all by himself!
At the park in the afternoon.
Donuts for his birthday treat.
He's more interested in his phone.
It was hot Monday and Tuesday and then Wednesday a cold front came through with 21 degree temps Thursday and Friday nights so we spent a lot of time picking before we lost everything.
FHE activity.
Everyone was too talkative during lesson so we had a crazy party where we ran around, danced, jumped, whooped, etc and got all our sillies out. It was pretty fun.
Tuesday: more early morning picking. I just love the color assortment.
We took off for the zoo and saw a lady stopped on the freeway with a blow out so we turned around and went back to help her. The 3 little kids were so good to play in the van.
Makenna playng with the shredded tire while Tom and I put the donut on. The lady was really grateful and hadn't been able to get ahold of her boss (even though work was only 5 minutes away) or anyone to come help her.
Selfie of the photographer.
The porcupine at the zoo.
Concert pictures never turn out but Alexis is the main person you see, right in the front playing the oboe.
This didn't turn out either; I'll have to get a good one at their Christmas concert. I love siblings performing together. Alexis was in the choir and band, Spencer was in the advanced orchestra.
So many people came up to Spencer to talk afterward, he's so popular. This girl brought him cookies.
After he got home from the concert he made this poster in reply to Emily who gave him the poster last Friday.
Samuel dressed up like a turkey--his friend gave him this hat.
I came home from a walk and the boys were getting a snack.
And as boys do, competing to see who could eat the most.
My older boys have never had this competition with lettuce (it was usually pizza or tacos) but I'm glad my younger boys are a lot healthier. It's fun to watch them scarf down lettuce until their teeth and hands are green (part of the competition.)
Last pictures of Brother Tarbets garden before a deep freeze killed it all the next two nights.
This is our jungle of tomatoes.
It was fun having the whole neighborhood gathering their crops in before the freeze. We picked peaches, grapes, tomatoes, peppers, oregano, basil, lemon basil, rosemary, and parsley.
I just love seeing all the beautiful colors and bounty. My dream would be to have my own mini farm, orchard, berry bushes, and garden, but for now this makes me happy. Sorry for all the pictures, this is the last as now the garden is dead.
Our Wednesday quint party.
And we celebrated Spencer getting picked for a piano concerto in January! He's tried out the past 2 years and hasn't gotten in and was devastated. The day he was rejected last year he cried all day and the next day he moved on. He googled "10 hardest piano concertos" and picked number 5 and went to work memorizing 56 pages. They ended up shortening concertos this year to let more students get in so he will only be performing 31 pages. He is super excited though!! His hard work the past 12 months paid off.
A random selfie, can't remember why. :)
I took this picture of Samuel to thank my friend who gave him the little reading toy he's holding and played with all night.
The sign the kids made to congratulate Spencer on getting chosen for concerto night. Kaitlyn made it and Talea added her scribbles to it and Andy copied "Spencer" above Kaitlyn's.
They put it across the kitchen cabinets so he'd see it when he walked in.
Saturday: Talea being super cute helping me pull hair out of the vacuum's brush.
We walked home from MamaJo's house and found these two out enjoying a plate of nachos with salsa. So funny!
Walking into the temple I turned to look and saw the full moon rising between the mountains. It was awe-inspiring and lots of people were taking pictures.
