Monday: With Talea still complaining about her arm and not willing to move it or even tell us where it hurt, I took her to urgent care.
Waiting to get x-rayed.
I've never seen an x-ray so it was fun for me. Talea was adorable.
Waiting to hear the results.
They couldn't see anything but splinted it until we could see an orthopedist.
Talea loved her new "cast" and sling as it helped her arm feel so much better.
She even ran and jumped on the mattresses in the reading spot while I finished sanding and painting my room.
Tuesday: Alexis was flying into Charlotte at 8pm so we spent the afternoon at a state park lake.
Talea collected shells and wrote her name in the sand.
Thomas stayed home and went to play practice so it was just me and the 5 little kids and we had a great time.
Sunny and blue skies when we got there but after a couple hours it downpoured on us with the outer bands of Ida.
View from the tree Talea and I were sitting under and reading to escape the heat. Then the clouds moved in and the rain started coming down. Soon it downpoured and we packed up and left with all our clothes and towels soaked.
Stocking up at Sam's Club. I don't have plans to go to a big city until the end of October so we got everything we could think of since we were just killing time while Alexis' flight was delayed.
Took this because it reminded me of crossing bridges over the ocean out by Bath, NC.
We also stocked up on organic bulk items at Whole Foods and then got some dinner and warmed it in the microwave there and ate it at their tables. Found out Lexi's plane is 2 hours late.
We went to the observation area at CLT and watched planes land and take off. It was fun even though it was dark. We were all so excited to be up late, to see Lexi again, to have a hurricane coming, and for Andy's birthday tomorrow.
Way out there you can see the Charlotte skyline.
Alexis spent 2 weeks in Utah and we really missed her.
Wednesday: While we were eating lunch and catching up, everyone telling Alexis something she missed, Andy went and got all the ice cream we have and made himself a cone for his birthday. Didn't even wait for us to sing.
Opening presents.
He's wanted Mario Monopoly for a long time. He also got a pocketknife and garbage truck.
Alexis picked up her drivers license while she was in Utah and here she is off to drop the girls at play practice and go to YW and YM with Thomas.
I stayed home with the little 3 and had fun playing outside as the rain had finally stopped and cool air blew in.
Homeschooling is so rewarding. Kids diligently working while I walk around and answer questions or give pointers, start laundry, then come back and help some more. They're at great ages. So eager to learn and love doing school. Makes my heart so happy I have to take pictures to remember this moment.
Andy got a pocketknife for his birthday so the 3 boys sit outside and whittle.
Ricky, our neighbor, came over and helped us put up swings. He climbed way up in this tree!
I couldn't get any good pictures with the sun and shadows and fast movement, but the kids love the new swings. They're exactly what I imagined when we moved in and I'm so happy they're finally up! They were only $6 a piece plus the price of the red rope.
Friday: Waiting at the orthopedist to see what he thought.
Makenna and Alexis came along.
Getting another x-ray.
It must be feeling better because she didn't cry this time and was willing to move it.
Scratching her arm with that other splint off.
Getting a new purple cast. The doctor said it wasn't broken but he'd put a cast on for 2 weeks to protect it while it healed so that she could still run and jump and not worry about it when her brothers tackled her.
Playing all afternoon on our new swings.
I love doing school outside, especially botany since we have so many plants to study.
Andy doing math with me after the others are done.
I cut up green peppers to freeze while watching the kids play and helping Andy.
Makenna and Talea playing in a little house fort.
Sam and Andy climbing trees.
Roasting hot dogs and marshmallows.
These will have to suffice for our "before" pictures as on Saturday we changed things a bit and will continue to fix up this are.
Colton Smith came over while we were eating and entertained us with stuffing umpteen grapes in his mouth.
Saturday: Playing in the swings during yard work time.
Working on the "trampoline park" as we're going to call this area. We have the trampoline with a carved stump stool to get onto it, a balance beam, wood post obstacle course, jump ropes, fire pit, and picnic table. We're going to paint hopscotch on the cement and it'll also be a place to draw with chalk. I'm going to think of other things to make like a teeter totter or something.
Talea wanting her picture up in a tree
and holding her baby and tree branch.
