Week ending 4-24-22 Lori leaves, prom, spring

Last Sunday: Hanging out with Aunt Lori while Thomas and Alexis play the cello/piano.
Singing primary songs to Kaitlyn's ukulele.
Monday: I'm so glad to be back where azalea's bloom. I need to plant a bunch more.
The kids making a music video of "My Favorite Things." I was sick and it rained so it was a perfect activity to do with Aunt Lori all day. It turned out great! It's on youtube under "My Favorite Things Holladay Family."
Being sick for 3 days nobody picked the asparagus. It got so tall!
Reading with Aunt Lori.
The view out the playroom window.
Tuesday: Lori saying goodbye to Madalyn who is leaving on a mission next month.
These 3 came with me to drop Lori off at the airport. We had a great visit with her. Too bad I was sick for 3 days but Lori dyed eggs, made the Easter dinner and played with the kids.
Lori's request was to sleep in the sunroom so we got this bed set up for her. It looked cozy so I thought I'd sleep in it when she left. We've had hot weather since then so it was probably our last night of having a fire.
Wednesday: Makenna and Madalyn taking pictures of spring around the homestead.

Talea loves picking and eating the lettuce. Last summer she told her primary teacher lettuce was her favorite food. Then after that she went around saying, "I don't wike wettuce." Now it looks like she likes it again.
Little cherries growing!

Walking to get the mail with me, Tilly wanted to play on Blueberry Hill a bit.

Already all green just from the last time we were up here.
Talea went around cutting the tall pieces of grass.

Thursday: Working on Blueberry Hill. Decided to start with the first row instead of working on the last rows that we did the other times. All those trees growing out of them gotta go.

Kaitlyn dragging a tree I cut down.
Our pile of trees I cut out of the bushes after only 1 hour. Time to go in for lunch.
Friday: Studying ferns in science.

It's fun watching them open but I kinda dread when the whole forest is full of them all summer. It's been nice to have the woods open and airy and stuff died down all winter. Easier to hike and play in.
Madalyn helping Alexis get ready for a stake prom.
She wore Madalyn's former concerto dress and it looked great on her.

Alexis and a group of friends.

Saturday: We had a relaxing Saturday afternoon. Thomas made taco meat for taco salad.
The 5 little kids jumped on the trampoline with the hose after playing dolls, cars, and hiking in the woods a good part of the day.
The yard freshly mowed. Something so satisfying about that.
We trimmed these spotted laurels way back and I redid the border around them. Next I'll plant flowers. I forgot to take a before picture, but they were huge bushes. This is an in-between picture. :)
Alexis and Madalyn hung out on the porch for hours.
Yummy taco salad dinner outside.

Week ending 4-17-22 Two field trips, Lori comes, Easter

Last Sunday: When the little boys went missing I found them on the trampoline reading their scriptures.
Talea and I planted some potatoes.

Monday: Field trip to Stone Mountain State Park
Kaitlyn reading comfortably
I took 5 kids on a hike to see the waterfall while Madalyn, Kaitlyn, and Makenna stayed and played in the creek.
Looking at the waterfall. It wasn't what we expected.
Thomas and Talea havin a good time.
Middle falls.
The water cascaded 200'.
My 5 hikers at middle falls.
Lower falls. It looked like a huge, but dangerous, waterfall.
I liked how Andy and Thomas were both squatting and playing in the water.
Alexis just sitting, enjoying the waterfall, and looking beautiful.
Samuel also enjoying the waterfall and pond area. I loved watching each child explore and enjoy it, being fully in the moment.

Alexis and Thomas dunking their heads in to cool off.
Andy trying it too.
When we got back to the creek we found Kaitlyn and Makenna floating their dolls down the creek and having a great time.
Thomas found a fun staff.
These 3 girls heard about the waterfall and decided they did want to hike and see it.

Samuel wanted to do the 1.75 mile hike to the top of stone mountain. This is one of the viewpoints on the trai.
The next mountain over is the summit of Stone Mountain. Samuel is standing by it so you can see how huge it is.
Another viewpoint near the summit.

Back at the creek the kids kept playing with their dolls for another hour before we convinced them it's time to go home.
The rest of us reading, relaxin and snackin.
It was a wonderful field trip and I'm so glad everyone came.
Tuesday: How things are lookin around here. Blueberry bushes are all blossoming.
Strawberries are flowering.
Asparagus are popping up.
Lots of tiny ones poking through the ground. By the end of the week we were able to pick quite a few. I didn't know they grew so fast.
Azalea flowering.
Wednesday: Bookmobile and park. Kinda looks like fall. I didn't know there were so many red blossoming trees. Spring is beautiful.

Andy and Kenna sliding down backwards.
Kaitlyn's 12th birthday!
She hung out with the older kids all day, read Harry Potter with them, and made a candy land cake.
She's wearing the same shirt Kylie, Madalyn, and Alexis wore when they turned 12.

Opening presents. She got a shirt from Mama and I gave her a Lego stroller and some organizing stuff for all her sewing suppies.
Thursday: We went to the Greensboro Children's Museum for another field trip before picking Aunt Lori up at the airport.
Making up their own play to act out.
Talea loved the pretend grocery store.

There were a lot of real vehicles to play on which was cool.
Filling up the race car with gas.
I liked the semi the best. It was bigger than I thought inside and very comfy.
Alexis and Madalyn playing in the ambulance.

Tilly driving the race car.
The little girls loved the hospital nursery the best.

Madalyn at the top of a huge climbing net.

Running to meet Lori off the airplane.

Having races with Lori before dinner.
Kait showing the shirt Mama gave her.
She hadn't had time to open all her presents the night before because she had YW so she opened them tonight with Lori. This is a thread organizer.
Friday: We worked on Blueberry Hill for 2 hours before lunch. Lori was a great help!
Running down the hill for lunch.

Lori left 30 degree weather and is loving our 70+ degrees.
Hiking in the woods with Lori and showing her the bone pile, vine swing (which broke when I was on it), springs and creeks.

I scratched and bruised my elbow when I fell as well as got a stiff neck and back. I landed flat on my back in the creek.
My muddy wet shirt. I was pretty embarassed and learned to always check the vines before running and jumping on it and showing off. I've swung on it plenty of times and thought it was strong.
Lost of asparagus shooting up.
Yay for lettuce! It's so fun seeing our garden grow.
Saturday: Easter Egg hunt at the church.

Aunt Lori and Talea having a tea party picnic.
Aunt Lori helped the kids dye eggs.
Today: Lining up to go downstairs on Easter morning.

Looking for Easter candy.
