Kaitlyn Cutie Pie

Kaitlyn is 8 months old, which is my favorite age. I love how they can crawl and pull up. My babies are so happy once they can get around on their own and I love watching their little bodies zoom across the room or their eyes think as they sit and figure something out. They love to be tossed in the air or danced with. I like being able to feed them Cheerios or a cracker in the grocery cart when they get hungry. Kaitlyn is definitely into finger foods and is still semi-resistant to eating off a spoon, so she loves Cheerios. I love how easily babies this age smile and laugh. Something as simple as a fake hiccup from me produces the biggest laugh from the baby. They also love to play with the littlest things such as boxes and hangers (Kaitlyn loved the plastic one this outfit came on when Grandma gave it to her and wouldn't let go of it.) Babies this age are just so much fun!

One night when Nathan's family was here, we were sitting around chatting and were greatly entertained by Kaitlyn playing with the chocolate covered cherries box. She was so funny. She also stuck out her tongue a lot, which I sadly didn't get any pictures of.

I love the wide toothless smiles of my babies this age.

Keeping me company while I do dishes.

Playing on my bed.

We are so blessed to have Kaitlyn in our family. Everyone adores her and she brings all of us so much joy. Those soft, chubby cheeks get lots of kisses because she is so irresistable.

Christmas Happenins

Holladay girls the Sunday before Christmas.

Nathan's family came up for a short visit a few days before Christmas and brought the children pajamas and puzzles for their Christmas presents.

Working hard on a Planet Earth puzzle.

There was a lot of fun and goofing off as well. Here Madalyn is standing on one of Aunt Amy's knees. Poor Amy, the kids mauled her. They climbed all over her. At age 16, she is a fun aunt and a great sport about all of the abuse. We're so glad they got to come even if they weren't here for very long. We had a great time with them.

On Christmas Eve the kids got homemade candy bars in the mail from Aunt Lori. They got to say exactly what they wanted in them from which kind of chocolate, to peanuts, marshmallows, gummy bears, oreos, etc.

White chocolate with gummy bears, M&Ms, and chocolate chips. Yummy!

Christmas Eve dinner.
Nathan was very blessed to have a fairly light day and was able to be home from work at 5:00.

It's not Christmas Eve without the Nativity.
Thomas is a shepherd.

Kylie is the angel.

Alexis is a wiseman.

Spencer and Madalyn are Joseph and Mary. Kaitlyn was the baby Jesus, but I guess I didn't get a picture of it, only video.

Lining up to go downstairs Christmas morning.

The girls got magnetic dolls, something they've been wanting for a long time.

Christmas tree cinnamon rolls for breakfast before Nathan went to work at 9:30.

The girls also got parasols and fans to be lovely ladies.

Kaitlyn got a walker I got at a consignment sale awhile back.

The boys got additional train tracks and trains to go with their old set.

Venice Snobby Duck

One day Kylie was telling me how she used to call "Feliz Navidad" "Venice Snobby Duck." The other kids thought that was pretty funny and decided to resurrect that terminology. They put the song on over and over and went around the house like a train. I'm going to be sad when Kylie stops doing goofy things like this with them. That's something I love about them being close in age. They all love to play together. (For the most part, although it's starting to be closer to half in half, which I'm sad about.)

I would have trimmed the video if I could have, so you can just watch a part of it if you want.

Date Day

Last Monday we had Mommy Date day. I took Nathan to work so that I could have the van all day and take each child out to go shopping for the sibling whose name he/she had and get a bite to eat too. It was a wonderful day! It was only in the upper 20's with a wind chill factor below that and very gray skies, which made Christmas shopping all the more cozy. Since it was Monday and all the public school kids were still in school, there was very little traffic or lines. I spent about 2 hours with each child and it was so much fun!
When I came out of my bedroom that morning I was greeted by Alexis who was going to drop off Daddy with me and be first to go out. She was all dressed up, wearing a skirt and tights and church shoes. I was very impressed and really excited for our day. I mean, how often does it happen that you get to shop all day and eat out 5 times in one day? :)
Alexis took a long time deciding what to buy for Madalyn because she wanted to buy everything and didn't have enough money, but she finally decided and we went to Brueggar's Bagels for brunch. We shared a cinnamon roll bagel that was delicious!
Kaitlyn came with me on all of the dates except Madalyn's, when she was home taking a nap. Kylie baby-sat the other kids.

Madalyn was next and we went to Target to get Kylie a present. I love how decisive Madalyn is and doesn't need anyone's suggestions on what to buy. She was very quick and we were off to Salsarita's for lunch because she had a free taco coupon. I loved talking with her about her primary class and just having some slow, quiet time with her.

Thomas was next and picked out a bag of sour gummy worms at Fresh Market along with an orange juice. He is adorable and so much fun to take places. He went to Toys R Us to pick out Spencer a present.

Spencer insisted he's never eaten at McDonalds before (poor kid), so although I wanted our dates to be at quiet, more pleasant places, I consented. Besides, I had a coupon. He got a 1/3 lb hamburger with bacon and cheese plus medium fries and he ate it all! I was really surprised. I enjoyed talking to him about his primary class and friends and other interests.

After he finished we ran to Toys R Us for him to buy Thomas a present. We had to go really quickly because it was time to pick up Nathan from work. He's definitely a boy and had no problem spending 40 minutes eating and only 10 minutes shopping. :) Then we had a blast trying to make all the lights to get to Nathan in record time and we did it!

After FHE and the kids were in bed I took Kylie out. Since she's the babysitter, I had to wait until Nathan was home. I took Kaitlyn too so that Nathan could work on his patient notes. She's so easy that I hardly notice she's with us anyway. We went to Target where Kylie almost bought Alexis the same present Madalyn bought for her. She debated for a long time and picked something else. She's always been a fun shopper and we really get along when we're shopping so we had a great time.

Instead of eating out Kylie picked out a box of chocolates at Target like Nathan and I have on Valentines Day. Then we went over to Barnes and Nobles to eat them. The cafe was full so we sat in the children's section and ate and laughed all night until they kicked us out at closing. We can be very silly together and it reminds me of the fun times I had with my roommates at BYU.

I was trying to get Kylie to eat her chocolate as if it was the best thing she's ever tasted with all the oohs and ahhs and melt-in-your-mouth look on your face, but she just laughed instead.

Kylie would love it if we had a room in our house that looked like Barnes and Nobles. She would stay in it all day.

Christmas is Coming!

I put these pictures on last week and just realized they never posted. Now they're sorta old, but oh well!

Here are some pictures of us getting ready for Christmas. Nathan will be working at the hospital over Christmas, something I'm disappointed about since he only has to work there 3 two-week shifts a year. What a shame that two of them are over Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's his first time ever working Christmas. I guess we've been blessed in that way. But since we still only have one car that means the kids and I will be home bored a lot. On the bright side, now all of three of his shifts will be over and he won't be working at the hospital for at least the next 8 months. Just clinic work and research, which are more flexible and a lot less stressful.

Kaitlyn helping put the Thanksgiving decorations away.

Christmas ornament cupcakes I made when I was treats for FHE the week we were getting our tree.

Eating the treats and watching some Christmas cartoons for activity.

Nathan and Spencer going to a Christmas concert at ECU. Nathan got free tickets and we set up a date to go but then Kylie got sick so Nathan took Spencer instead.

Picking out the tree at Lowes.

After the kids decided the first tree they saw was the one they wanted, they went and played in the trees. (We ended up getting the first one we saw.)

Taking it home.

Decorating it.

Santa cookies Kylie made for treats last week.
