Week ending 7-19-20

We had a normal week, hanging out at home or out in nature. We've been busy compiling lesson plans for when we start school and used down time to clean. The younger 6 kids were really creative, making puppets, cell phones out of wood, a wooden locked box for an escape room, paper go cams, and much more.
For FHE activity Talea chose to dance to nursery rhymes. It's the same set of CD's I got when Kylie was born. I loved dancing to them with her so I love that it's come full circle.
Picking tomatoes, peppers and zucchini.  Kait's pumpkin is growing faster than anyone else's!
Tuesday: Nature camp with the 3 year-olds. We had a great time playing in the sand, fishing, jungle hunting, reading, sketchin, and eating. Talea is so lucky to have a great group of friends. My other kids didn't play with their friends nearly as often as she does.

Alexis engaged the children in figuring out how to build a pool that would hold water. The winning configuration was using a plastic sandwich bag underneath the rocks.

Wednesday: I took the 5 younger kids to the park before it got too hot and they all wanted me to take their pictures the whole time.
Samuel trying to pose. :)

Thursday: Samuel made a paper go cam and recorded his whole day. :)
Talea made me find her a Christmas outfit in the clothing tubs and then wanted everyone to do "Feliz Snobby Duck." (Be a train and dance around the house to Feliz Navidad.)
Thomas kept himself occupied building things with wood.
Kylie sent us all individual letters which we read just before talking to her on hangouts.
I loved seeing Spencer take his to the couch to devour a sweet note from his sweet big sister.
Alexis opening one of her birthday presents with Kylie on hangouts.
It's an oboe bag! For her to take her oboe stuff to lessons in.
Friday: Mopping party! I love it when all the kids are home and we put on music and all work hard together for an hour or two.
Gathering for scripture reading.

Kenna showing Aunt Lori her scratches from doing a jump on her bike in the dirt hills behind our house.
Saturday: Taking my middle kids on a long hike. We didn't start until 6:15 and took 2 hours to reach the lake because we stopped a lot to see wildlife and flowers, and then ended up hiking back in the dark and not getting home until 10:30pm! It was tons of fun!
You can't see Samuel, but he led the way the entire time and never tired. He was impressive! Funny I caught a pic of Makenna pointing because the whole trip she stopped and pointed to things. She was in awe of the beauty the whole time and it was hard to keep her hiking fast to beat the setting sun. In the end we didn't mind stopping and admiring so much and hiking back in the dark. That was fun.
This is my current favorite hike so I loved sharing it with them.

We got to see not only one moose, or two, but three! The first one was up the hill from the trail. The second was really close to us. I didn't even have to zoom in.
Saying good-bye to the 2nd moose. Then we saw a 3rd in the trees!

Made it to the lake!
The kids skipped rocks for half and hour and we ate apple slices then ran down as fast as we could, using my flashlight the last half of the way.
Samuel rolled up his shorts and waded in. Brave boy because the rest of us were cold just sitting on the shore. We left at 8:45 and got down at 9:45pm.
Sketching the beautiful lake.
Saying good bye to the lake.
I love this ridge and it was really fun running along it.

Thomas' dirty feet and ripped up shoes.
Kaitlyn showing Lori her scratches from many falls and her all clean after an 11pm shower. All 5 of us slipped in the dark in the exact same place and ended up laughing. We all warned the person behind us not to slip, but one by one we still all slipped! It was so funny.
