Monday was Lori and Talea's birthdays. We left on Tuesday. Wednesday was nature camp for 3 year-olds. Thursday and Friday were babysitting, lesson plans, cleaning, and regular life. Saturday was the 4th of July.
Monday: Misty and Lori went off to work and we did morning chores and then the kids played her Mario Kart wii while I went for a walk in the rain.
After lunch we made Lori an indoor beach party since it was too cold (50's) and rainy for a real trip to the lake.
Lori took Kaitlyn to work with her and when they came home and saw the beach party they were really surprised. The blankets on the floor were the water with goldfish crackers in it. Above that was the big tv with a picture of the ocean and the sound of waves. We turned on the ceiling fan and created an ocean breeze. It was pretty fun!
Lori enjoying her special birthday spot.
Samuel helping Lori make her birthday cake.
Alexis made Talea our healthy brownie recipe.
Talea got two outfits from my mom and I gave her a pair of sandals I bought on clearance at the end of last summer.
My mom got Lori a pair of cute pajamas.
Happy birthday to Aunt Lori and Talea!
Pushup party while waiting for the homemade ice cream to be done.
Snuggles with Aunt Lori before bedtime.
Tuesday: Seeing the garbage truck as we packed up.
Making a fort as soon as we were unpacked.
As I was making bread I heard Samuel telling Anderson that "we're Hofmanns when Mommy is home and Holladays when we go visit Daddy."
Wednesday: I took the 3 year-olds to nature school. First we had to play on a playground. :)
Alexis came as my helper and Evelyn loved her.
Tilly and Boston climbing up the slide. Ruth sliding down.
Evelyn, Talea, Ruth, and Boston.
They were the cutest four little 3 year-olds ever! They were so polite, adorable with their high little voices calling me "Mawcie", and joyful as they threw rocks into the water and collected sticks. They made up songs and talked to each other and there wasn't one squabble amongst them.
We had a pretty good view of the greenest part of the mountains. They aren't green for very long so when they are I love to stare at them.
They were so cute hiking, running and singing. I never could get the 4 of them together as one was always holding my hand or running ahead but I sure loved watching and listening to them.
Looking at the marsh.
This little guy, Boston is so tiny and cute. Alexis took 25 pictures of him climbing on the rocks and picking leaves. :)
It was the perfect little shady creek area we had all to ourselves.
Reading books to them.
Miss Alexis, the photographer.
Thursday: Watering our garden at Brother Tarbet's. Zucchini!
Lots of baby pumpkins growing!
Asparagus!
Lots of tomatoes!
And a couple pumpkins already getting big!
Alexis checking everything out.
Tilly, Ruth, and Andy painting.
Talea wanting to show Mama her Elsa braid. And the new outfit Mama got her for her birthday.
Friday: Talea and Ruth saying, "Higher!"
Finishing one of the leaf projects we did for nature camp but were always helping the other kids so we didn't get to finish ours.
You put a freshly picked leaf under a piece of fabric and hammer it and it shows up on the material.
It was super cool. I cut old pillowcases and also used old hankerchiefs. Alexis' turned out the best. She's a natural artist.
The girls walking back to Ruth's house. I love how well they play together, make up songs together, and seem to always be in sync. What a blessing to live by each other! They've been friends since before they turned 2.
Doing school with Sam and Andy. They never did finish their workbooks during the school year but it's kinda nice to have some work to do and spend time with them when we're not overloaded with school.
Talea wanting me to send Lori a picture of her scratch.
I helped Kait and Kenna sew doll blankets and burp cloths.
Kait, Kenna and Lydia Summers played school with their dolls all week. Each of these are dolls sitting at little makeshift desks.
Saturday: Helping me make chocolate flax muffins.
(We called them cupcakes but the recipe said muffin and although they were good, they weren't moist like cupcakes so I want to find a different recipe next time.)
I was going to make whipped cream from the cream off our raw milk but found this bottle in the basement fridge leftover from Nathan's birthday so we used that instead. And we filled them with some chocolate truffle filling. They turned out pretty good. Not too sweet, which was our goal.
Happy 4th of July dinner to start our fast.
Spencer went hiking and Madalyn was visiting cousins in Springville.
I love how Samuel grabs a huge homegrown lettuce leaf and munches on it.
Spencer climbed Lone Peak with a friend and was gone from 6:30am to 8:30pm and came home pretty dirty. Yes he was wearing hiking shoes. No, I don't think they do much to keep the dirt out, haha!
Doing snap-its in the driveway.
The kids kept throwing them and spinning or jumping then trying to catch them or hit them like a baseball bat.
We went to the church parking lot and rode bikes around as we saw fireworks go off all around us. Alexis stood in the middle and as we rode around her we slapped her hand.
I love seeing the valley and little fireworks popping up all over the place.
The blurry image is Madalyn on her unicycle.
Riding home. Foot massage as everyone's feet were sore from riding barefoot.
Today: Talea got my conference Ensign and highlighter and perfectly highlighted rows. Her dexterity amazes me. Her handwriting is already better most first graders and her highlighting was better than mine. :)
Madalyn's perfect salad. She needs to have a restaurant and sell them.
